Vault Shapes
On this page we want to give you an idea of vaults in general and of the vault shapes we produce in particular.

The barrel vault
In barrel vaults the straight wall moves over into an arch evenly. If the curve is semicircular, we speak of a roman vault or round vault (barrel vault).
If the arch flattens out at the vertex, it becomes a three-centred arch, and when it becomes tighter, a gothic arch.

The closed vault has a face wall on both sides, i.e. it is an independent building. It can be erected under or above ground in the garden with its own entrance.
The semi-arch has only a quadrant cross-section. It acts as a wall curved towards the outside and is ideal as reinforcement against a slope as extension or narrow vault passageway when it is "lent" against a building.
The cap vault
The ARCasa cap vaults are placed on top of straight walls as so-called arched segments. Depending on the radius and width of the vault, the arches are lower and the caps flatter. They are placed on both sides of the supports as arch elements.
If cap arches are placed behind and next to each other, we speak of a Prussian cap ceiling. Depending on the size, the arches rest only on joists or additionally on columns.

The lunette vault
Lunettes are small rectangular barrel vaults connected to a main vault, similar to a dormer.
The size depends on the use. A lunette that is merely access or window to a vault will be smaller than a lunette that, for example, houses a sauna or wine cellar.
From an architectural point of view, lunettes can be used to create especially attractive premises with high practical value.

The cross vault
Two barrel vaults of the same height intersecting symmetrically at a right angle produce a cross vault.
When cross vaults are lined up next to each other, it is possible to span wide areas with them. The individual vaults then rest on columns.
