Interior installation in a new building:
The barrel vault or cap vault is installed in the new building inside the enclosing walls of the basement.
In industrial buildings it is also possible to retrofit a vault depending on the ceiling and vault height.

Win space without giving anything away is the aim when adjoining an underground cellar to an existing basement. The vault is either adjoined square or parallel to the basement. Depending on which option is chosen, one or two face ends are necessary. Entrance to the cellar is via the basement.
In multiple dwelling units it is of course also possible to install several vaulted cellars and to join them to each other if necessary. The area above the vault is retained completely.
The vaults can naturally also be built as free-standing units underground in the garden with separate outdoor entrance. This solution is used for houses without basements, where there is sloping ground or simply when it is the best option.
Vault as slope reinforcement:
Steep slopes in the garden need to be reinforced. If a vault is built into the slope, the slope is not only reinforced, but additional (garden) space is won. Whether only for garden tools or even as a wellness oasis, the vault fits into the garden very attractively. If it is to be used for food storage purposes, the vault is built deeper into the slope.
It cannot be said about all building materials that they are equally suitable for use under as well as above ground. But it can be said about the barrel vault and the cap vault. Building on the ground is just as easy. All that is necessary is to adapt the external sealing appropriately. Natural green roofing then lends the vault a very special charm.
