Treasure Trove in Dürrenzimmern
Treasure Trove at the Vine Dressers' Cooperative in Dürrenzimmern
Conversion of a historic vault cellar at the local vine dressers' cooperative in the neighbouring village of Dürrenzimmern. The cellar, once simply a storage place for bottles, has been turned into an impressing treasure trove for wines...When there are respectable rooms in existing buildings that can be converted at reasonable effort in time and money to give them a new use, then this is worthwhile. So done with the stately sandstone vault dating back to 1939 lying deep under the cooperative's buildings and serving previously simply as a storage place for bottles of rarities collected over the past decades.
The goal was not only to provide suitable environs for their storage and presentation, but also for wine tasting. Once the cooperative had removed the old concrete shelves, our craftspeople were let loose.
Our services:
Planning and construction management
Laying of the special fast-reaction floor heating system to avoid cold feet at wine tasting sessions without heating the complete cellar
Tiling work with the natural stone Anröchter dolomite
Fitting of the wine racks for up to 15,000 bottles
Counters topped with natural stone also of Anröchter dolomite
Fitting of a small matching kitchen niche with hand-shaped bricks and oiled oak
Original-style oak doors
Direct and indirect lighting with spotlights and LEDs at every shelf. They can optionally be set for changing colours. In this play of light the rustic masonry appears downright fantastic. The lighting of every single shelf also lets the wines shine.
The highlight: LED diodes emit neither heat nor UV radiation and are therefore ideal for lighting in wine cellars!
The special ambience and aura of the treasure trove spreads directly to its visitors. This could be seen at the inauguration of the freshly renovated vault on 17 and 18 May in time for the cooperative's annual wine festival. Whereas the usual hustle and bustle prevailed in the marquee, the mood down in the quiet cellar was ceremonial, almost reverent: the ideal situation for a successful tasting. As usual our heartfelt thanks go to the owners, in this case the board , management and all vine dressers of the Dürrenzimmern - Stockheim cooperative. Guided tours are possible by arrangement. Take the opportunity!
